MISSION
“To pioneer new approaches, create new tools, and influence housing policy to improve the production and sustainability of affordable housing through its consortium of active member organizations in Broward County.”
OVERVIEW
The Broward Housing Partnership, Inc. (BHP) was formed to develop innovative solutions to combat the housing crisis in Broward County. Through an active coalition of local businesses, community organizations, and government agencies, the partnership is helping to ensure affordable housing for the region.
INITIATIVES
The Broward Housing Partnership focuses its initiatives on Education & Outreach, Research & Recommendations, Funding & Financing, and Development & Preservation of attainable housing by:
- Distributing information through our interactive website, frequent email updates and regular meetings;
- Conducting housing conferences to educate the public, private, and community sectors;
- Analyzing public and private sector solutions to the housing crisis and building consensus around key tools and approaches for Broward County;
- Proposing private sector initiatives and advocating for public sector policies;
- Identifying funding sources for individuals and developing unique, private sector alternatives to financing development;
- Partnering with member organizations to develop housing and generate mechanisms to ensure long-term affordability.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Broward Housing Partnership and its participants have worked diligently over the past year to achieve the following successes:
- Hosted an Affordable Housing Summit with twelve nationally recognized speakers and over 500 participants from the public, private and community sectors;
- Compiled working list of existing, underutilized and new tools available to municipalities, developers, and individuals seeking to either build or obtain affordable housing;
- Hired the Florida International University’s Metropolitan Center to prepare a countywide Housing Needs Assessment;
- Researched the implementation of a Voluntary Housing Trust Fund, Community Land Trust, “soft” second mortgage program, double bottom line investment fund, partnerships with developers, and education and outreach to alleviate the housing crisis;
- Developed an overall Strategic Plan for the organization addressing public, private and alternative funding sources for development and end-users, educational initiatives, policy enhancements and design and development approaches.
INVOLVEMENT
The success of the Broward Housing Partnership lies in the strength and commitment of its partners As such, the Partnership seeks to be as inclusive as possible. Local supporters include businesses, community organizations, development firms, banks, and government agencies that are committed to forging successful solutions to solve the housing crisis in Broward. All come together and share their input during monthly Partnership meetings.
